Language Levels Guide

What do A1 to C2 mean?

Every lesson at True Speak Studios is labeled with a level so you always know exactly where it fits in your learning journey. Here’s what each one means in plain English.

A1 — Beginner B1 — Intermediate C2 — Mastery

Six stepping stones from first words to full fluency

These levels come from the CEFR — the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It’s the world’s most widely used language scale and it makes it easy to know exactly where you are and where you’re going. The levels are grouped into three pairs:

🌱 A1 & A2 — Beginner 🚀 B1 & B2 — Intermediate 🧠 C1 & C2 — Advanced

Beginner
First Steps
You know a few words and very basic phrases. You can introduce yourself and understand simple instructions. You’re just starting out — and that’s the most exciting place to be!

A2
Elementary
Getting Started
You can talk about familiar topics like family, hobbies and daily routines using short sentences. You’re starting to hold simple conversations and understand more of what you hear.

Intermediate
Finding Your Voice
You can handle most everyday situations, express opinions on familiar topics and follow the main ideas of conversations. You’re becoming comfortable expressing yourself in English.

Upper Intermediate
Speaking Freely
You can discuss complex topics clearly, understand native speakers well and express yourself with fluency. You can argue a point, explain a concept and follow abstract discussions.

Advanced
Thinking in English

Mastery
Full Fluency
